Background of the Study

Supply chain transparency has become a major concern for businesses, particularly logistics firms, as they face increasing pressure to ensure accountability, reduce fraud, and improve traceability in their operations. Blockchain technology, known for its immutable ledger and decentralized nature, has shown promise in providing a transparent and secure way to track goods and transactions across supply chains (Olaoye & Ibrahim, 2024).

Logistics firms in Sokoto State, which serve as key players in the regional supply chain, are beginning to explore blockchain technology for analytics to enhance transparency. Blockchain-based analytics enable firms to access real-time data on product movements, track inventory, and ensure the integrity of transactions, thereby mitigating issues such as theft, product counterfeiting, and inefficiencies. This study evaluates how blockchain-based analytics are transforming the supply chain transparency of logistics firms in Sokoto State, focusing on both the opportunities and limitations inherent in its adoption.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the potential benefits of blockchain for improving supply chain transparency, logistics firms in Sokoto State face several barriers in adopting this technology. These include a lack of technical expertise, high implementation costs, and regulatory uncertainties (Sulaiman & Usman, 2025). As a result, many firms are unable to fully leverage blockchain-based analytics to enhance transparency and streamline their operations. This study seeks to address these issues by evaluating the current state of blockchain adoption and its effectiveness in improving supply chain transparency.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the effectiveness of blockchain-based analytics in enhancing supply chain transparency in logistics firms in Sokoto State.

  2. To identify the challenges faced by logistics firms in adopting blockchain technology for supply chain transparency.

  3. To recommend strategies for improving the adoption and implementation of blockchain-based analytics in logistics firms in Sokoto State.

Research Questions

  1. How effective is blockchain-based analytics in improving supply chain transparency for logistics firms in Sokoto State?

  2. What are the challenges logistics firms face when adopting blockchain-based analytics?

  3. What strategies can be implemented to enhance the adoption of blockchain for supply chain transparency in Sokoto State?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Blockchain-based analytics have no significant effect on improving supply chain transparency for logistics firms in Sokoto State.

  2. Challenges such as high implementation costs and regulatory uncertainty do not significantly hinder the adoption of blockchain in logistics firms.

  3. Strategies for enhancing blockchain adoption have no significant impact on supply chain transparency in logistics firms.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study focuses on logistics firms in Sokoto State that have adopted or are considering adopting blockchain-based analytics for supply chain transparency. Limitations include potential bias in self-reporting by firms, differences in blockchain technology maturity, and variations in regulatory environments across firms.

Definitions of Terms
